                                                Our History

Chambers is located in the north-central part of Nebraska and in the southern part of Holt County.  Like many other small communities, its beginnings are a rich blend of American history that is the hallmark of the start of the great American west.

Chambers originally was to be named "Juanita", the name of the youngest daughter of Mr. Rufus D. Wry who had recently filed a claim three miles east of the Alderson claim. However, that name was already being used by another post office.  So another name was chosen by the postmaster of the Frontier post office in O'Neill, Mr. W.D, Matthews who then chose the name to be in honor of his friend, Mr. V.F. Chambers, who at the time was the registrar of deed in the Land Office in Niobrara.

One of the most important claims to fame for the community was its association with the great flying machine advent in the 1930's.  With the return of young veterans from the war and a flight instructor from Iowa who was enamored with the wide open spaces, Chambers had is very own airport.  In fact, at the time, Chambers had more airplanes per capita than any other town or city in the world.
To this day, Chambers continues to be a town of hard working rand and farm people who embrace every chance that comes along to continue to improve and advance its Community,

Weather you are planning to live in Chambers for only a short time or for the indefinite future, we hope you will make yourself a part of the community and will enjoy the pleasures of small-town America while you are here.
Welcome to our community and we hope you join us for the wonderful activiiies that make our community such a great place to live.
